THEME & SCOPE

Software measurement and metrics are key technologies for managing and controlling software development projects. Measurement is essential for any engineering activity and for increasing scientific and technical knowledge regarding both the practice of software development and empirical research in software technology. This conference will facilitate the exchange of software measurement experiences between theory and practice.

TOPICS OF INTEREST

We encourage submissions in any field of software measurement, including, but not limited to:

Foundations of software metrics
Practical measurement applications
Measurement processes and resources
Empirical case studies
Functional size measurements
Software process improvement
Product and process metrics, e.g. for security
Measurement-based best practice evaluation
Measurement-based project management
Measurement databases
Metrics validation
Measurement services and tools
Measurement-based business IT alignment
Theory of measurement
Measurement paradigms
Enterprise embedded solutions
Measurement of agile development
Measurement of software patterns
Measurement of software services
Measurement of service-oriented systems
Measurement of cloud-based systems
Software benchmarking
Software effort estimation
Software defect prediction
Software cost models
Measurement in program analysis

PAPER TYPES

The paper types are full paper (5 to 10 pages), short paper (3 to 6 pages), and fast abstract (1 to 4 pages). Short papers are appropriate for exhibiting late-breaking results and discussions about them. Fast abstracts are appropriate for work that is very new, in a prototype stage. All types of papers should not have already been published elsewhere, nor should they have been submitted to a journal or to another conference. Papers which exceed page limitation will be automatically rejected.

Accepted full papers and short papers will be included in the conference proceedings volume I, which will be available in the IEEE Computer Society Digital Library, and IEEE Xplore. Accepted fast abstracts will be included in the conference proceedings volume II.

SPECIAL ISSUE

Authors of selected high-quality papers of IWSM/MENSURA2011 will be invited to submit an expanded version for a special section on software reliability engineering of the IEICE Transactions on Fundamentals of Electronics, Communications and Computer Sciences (A) and Transactions on Information and Systems (D).
